About That Short Fiction Submission…

Posted on October 11, 2025October 15, 2025 by jbp

It was rejected.

But, on rereading it recently, I find I’m just as happy with it as I was when I wrote it. Arguably more so.

I’d ignored it for most of the past few months, and so it felt fresh(er) to me when rereading.

As a result, I had the experience of being a reader noticing symbolism, and the experience of an author realizing their readers may find more symbolism than intended.

I can see some room for improvement, and I might polish it up and do something else with it one day. Maybe not. Ultimately, the experience helped me to incrementally level up, and I’m grateful for it.
